GdR5 Beauty: The ruleset
What cruel fate awaits the poor Master, literally forced to study the whole game rules, when players just read the pages dedicated to their class and race, plus some other page of strict necessity. Especially since some rules are made more "symptoms", which discourages not just the Master beginners.
Each game has a respectable regulation, within which the participants move trying to exploit all the opportunities provided to achieve their objectives in an RPG things work the same way, except that the purpose is not to win or lose, but "play". The success or failure of a particular adventure can be as much in the background. Another difference is that the ruleset of an RPG is not reduced to four pages, which are typical in a board game any.
On the Regulation are two schools of thought: the first, which was a bit of RPGs at the base when they were created, which in recent years is coming back in vogue, is to have a ruleset that can discern any situation can happen. Notwithstanding that no master is removed the power to "improvised" or change parts of the regulation, and considering the idea of \u200b\u200bfollowing the letter of what is written in the manuals, this approach eliminates any ambiguous situation might arise in the game. Any type of action (even the most stupid as to extract a coin a pocket) is "controlled" by a very precise rules. On this line of thinking you can take for example the rules of D & D 3.0/3.5, which does not move, or play, which is not described in the Regulation. Often we refer to "action groups" which are grouped within the various individual actions, and every possible situation that happens in the game (including effects on the characters, behaviors, conflicting evidence and so on) has a description of the regulations. Many things also belong to schemes, so the addition of new shares to the regulation, as well as the creation of new items, spells, races or classes of characters is not an accidental or left to the simple evaluation staff.
Beyond the inherent difficulty in recalling every detail of the regulations of this type, this type of approach to the limit where the lack of imagination and interpretation, both the Master and the Players. If you try an especially elaborate, which has a connotation important stage and is described in a convincing manner by the player, but maybe that is particularly difficult to perform, with a regulation drive everything is reduced to a series of tests and throws of the dice that likely would lead to a failure. More importantly, the same player could avoid doing that action because, although deemed appropriate to his character, the high probability of error can lead to not do it.
The alternative is to have less regulation "binding." A regulation that is that it focuses not only on tables, scores, a description of all situations that may occur, calculations and so on, but that merely set of guidelines that allow it to manage in a general way the various game situations without going into detail, and while leaving the inventiveness of the players is the Master. It goes against the schema that "rigid" strengths and weaknesses are overturned. A less precise regulation involves the ability to have situations where you need the direct intervention the Master who must decide what to do. The biggest difficulty is to maintain a good level of consistency with similar decisions taken earlier, or even in past sessions of play. The advantage is that both players are more free Master of constraints and can take advantage of their creativity to solve various situations.
In the example above, the Master does not examine the elaborate regulatory action in terms of character, but more to a level of interpretation. Part of that action would leave the whim of the dice, but much of the success (or not) will be evaluated also from the Master himself, in terms of how it arises in the context of that action adventure and interpretation of the character, and this without excluding special situations that may arise in his mind after what the player describes them and tries to do, from time to time, creating new situations.
